Q: Briefly tell us about your journey to the Finger Lakes wine industry and to Lamoreaux Landing . A: I took the easy way out and married into the family about 20 years ago. I was a young naval officer living on the beach in Florida when I met my wife, who is Mark’s niece and grew up working summers in the vineyards and winery. After retiring from the military in 2007, we came up to the Finger Lakes to represent the next generation at Lamoreaux Landing. Having grown up on a fruit and vegetable farm south of Lake Erie in Northwestern Pennsylvania, it was a dream come true to get back to the farm for my second career. I’m a nuclear engineer by training, so I love the interface of art and science that comes with the challenges of wine growing and the intricacies of winemaking!

Q: Why is your favorite variety of grape to work with and why? A: I love Cabernet Franc for its depth of character, retained acidity and versatility of styles in which it can be crafted.

Q: What is you favorite variety to drink? A: Cabernet Franc again- because you can find a style to pair with any cuisine.

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant and what is your favorite thing to eat there? A: I would go to Dano’s Heuriger on Seneca everyday for their Salsify and a mug of Gruner Veltliner.

Q: Where would you travel if you knew you would have to stay there for up to a year? A: Greece- the world’s best beaches and an unlimited supply of Robola- enough said.

Q: Name a song that always gets you on the dance floor. A: Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

Q: If you could use just one condiment for the rest of the year what would it be. A: Sriracha Mayo- on anything!

Q: If you could choose any person from history to be your imaginary friend, who would it be and why? A: Leonardo da Vinci - the original Renaissance man

Q: If you could bring back any fashion trend what would it be? A: My current wardrobe, which my wife will tell you hasn’t changed since the time of da Vinci.

Q: What movie have you seen recently that you would recommend and why? A: Tombstone- a story of commitment to family, friendship and self discovery (you’re a daisy if you don’t watch this one at least once a year).

Q: Who is the most exciting famous person you ever saw or met? A: Harry Connick Jr

For three generations our family has been growing grapes on the shores of beautiful Seneca Lake using only sustainable winegrowing practices.
