Black Diamond Vineyard
Planted in the early 1970s, these Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer blocks are some of our oldest v. vinifera vines. While Lamoreaux is named for a local steamboat landing, the Black Diamond Vineyard is named for the historic steam-powered locomotive, the Black Diamond Express. From the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s, the Black Diamond hauled anthracite coal and passengers along the Lehigh Valley Railroad tracks. Although the rails have long been dismantled and the tracks abandoned, the railroad beds are still evident through the majority of our vineyards, and serve to demarcate the eastern boundary of our Black Diamond Vineyard.
