Svat Vineyards
In an attempt to combat the challenges associated with cool-climate viticulture, Charles Fournier introduced French-American hybrid varietals to New York in 1936. These hybrid vines were crossed to provide for greater cold-hardiness, disease resistance, and more desirable table wine characteristics. Our SVAT Vineyard, or Seyval and Vidal Above the Tracks, is a symbolic and living testament to this philosophical shift in Finger Lakes winemaking. So while our SVAT Vineyard Vidal Blanc still makes some of the best Ice Wine in the Finger Lakes, the Seyval Blanc vines have yielded to award-winning v. vinifera plantings of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Merlot.
