The 9 Best American wines for Thanksgiving feast
Thanksgiving Wine Recommendations
Lamoreaux Landing 2021 Unoaked Chardonnay: "Unoaked whites offer brighter fruit and acidity that cut through heavier Thanksgiving foods," says Sparkevicius. ($20.99 at The Richmond Shops)
A Taste of the Fingerlakes: Exploring the stories behind the bottles
The first bottling of Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars T23 Unoaked Cabernet Franc was released 20 years ago. “It was the brainchild of Owner, Mark Wagner, who wanted to showcase his estate grown Cabernet Franc fruit without the interplay of oak tannins and barrel aging,” says co-owner, Josh Wig of the initial 500 gallon lot made from a tank labeled 23. As popularity has soared, so has production. “It has outgrown Tank #23. We just bottled 2000 cases (nearly 5000 gallons) of the 2021 vintage.”
Best Finger Lakes wineries To Visit: Complete Visitor's Guide
Laid back and welcoming, Lamoreaux Landing is also committed to solar power and sustainability. Their award-winning Rieslings are perennial favorites but be sure to try their Grüner Veltliner and their unoaked Cabernet Franc to experience the depth and breadth of what the Finger Lakes has to offer.
NY To Anywhere: Travel Guide: Seneca Lake + Keuka Lake, Finger Lakes, New York
Overlooking what might be one of the best views of Seneca Lake, is Lamoreaux Landing. Named after a historic steamboat landing where the hillside meets the lake, this 100% estate grown winery focuses primarily on Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc.
We decided on a wine and cheese pairing here which featured some fabulous local cheeses and a selection of their award winning wines, which have built a reputation around the country. You can really tell their passion for winemaking and a sustainable product when doing a tasting as the team are very informative and knowledgable.
The winery is managed with sustainability at the forefront of the process, using 100% solar energy to power production, sustainable wine growing processes and minimal use of chemicals and pesticides.
Try these wines when munching on mushrooms
Crafted in the cool climate of the Finger Lakes using 100 percent carbonic maceration, this single-varietal cabernet franc is aged in stainless steel for six months. A “parent” of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc has some similar qualities but exhibits them in a lighter, more elegant fashion. Its herbaceousness makes it a dreamy partner for mushrooms.
This wine displays a deep, black-cherry hue, dotted with magenta and purple highlights. Black currants and black plums dominate the fruit-forward nose, with slightly subdued aromas of dried herbs emerging soon after. The herbaceous notes carry through to the palate, where one finds sage, green peppers and the merest suggestion of wet gravel. This wine is a delightful lesson in moderation, with just the right balance of acid, tannin and alcohol.
Pair it with: morels stuffed with sausage and sage, hen-of-the-woods (maitake) mushroom paté, and New England chicken of the woods chowder.

2019 brought us a cool and sunny growing season, and our patience in picking late (Oct 29th) was rewarded with the perfect balance of acidity and character. The grapes went through 100% carbonic maceration, and the wine aged in stainless steel for six months. It's medium in body and very fruit-forward but balanced by a quiet herbal presence.

THE ICE WINE COMETH FROM THE GOOD LIFE "On a blustery late November day, winemaker Mark Wagner heads south through the hillsides overlooking Seneca Lake. He passes bare vineyards picked clean in the harvest a month before. A mile or so south of the winery, he turns off into a dirt lane. Wagner pulls a few grapes, tastes, and tosses a few to his dog, Max. These grapes - hanging on the vine in the face of the wind, birds and the approaching frost - are special. They'll be turned into ice wine, a sweet nectarlike dessert drink. The Finger Lakes are a natural for ice wine production."
Sommelier Journal, October 2008
